How am I supposed to get my troubles in a kit bag?

Felix Powell, then a British staff sargeant, wrote the music for "Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag and Smile, Smile, Smile" in 1915 and entered it in a WWI competition for the best morale building song. The song won first prize and has been called "perhaps the most optimistic song ever written."

Powell committed suicide in 1942.

Ironical, isn't it.

Here they go again...

It is a curious phenomenon, but there seems to be an uncommon consistency to it:

The Last Airbender has not even begun showing yet and already M. Night Shyamalan haters are all bent out of shape about it (pun intended).

They have been at it for months!

And it's like that any time the man releases a new movie.

In this line of business, negative attention is better than no attention at all, I suppose, and M. Night Shyamalan is in good company: witness the critics' vitriolic reviews of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. There are directors like that who leave no one indifferent.

What to say?

I think Scott Adams has it right:

"You've probably noticed that opinion pollsters go out of their way to include as many morons as possible in surveys ... I think it's dangerous to inform morons about what their fellow morons are thinking. It only reinforces their opinions. And the one thing worse than a moron with an opinion is lots of them."

Case in point:

In other words: Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. (Has anyone here ever watched the Academy Awards or gotten involved in politics lately?)

Boy, I miss the Cold War.

The way it used to be in the old days...

When a spy knew what it meant to be a spy.

Well, let us just say that spies nowadays don't have the same flourishes.

Whatever happened to all the fanciful gadgets?

What? No fancy amphibious sport car?

No Spy Kids Power Suit?

Not even one misely Bulgarian umbrella, like in the good old days?

Seriously now, I mean, this is the third millennium, people! You would imagine that at the very least something like Doctor Pooh's sonic screwdriver would easily be one of the perks of the job by today standards.

What the hell?

Tony Perkins, the president of a hate group that seeks to demonize an entire group of Americans, will testify later this week about the fitness of Elena Kagan's moral character, or something. He's listed as a "minority witness" and will testify after Kagan wraps up her own remarks before lawmakers. And given Kagan has already told Sen. Jeff Sessions that she has "repeatedly said that the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy is unwise and unjust," there's plenty for Perkins to go after.

Why does anybody take this man seriously?

Whatever happened to no one gets left behind?

Good question!

Hey, call them a bunch of commies if you want to, but you've got to give it
to Five Finger Death Punch on this one.

I haven't had time to do any research, so I am not as familiar with the band as
I should be as I am posting this, but judging by this one song, it seems to me like
the world could use more socially concerned progressive voices like theirs:
