I don't know, Gary, it could be that French surrealist dark comedies are just not your thing.Or it could just simply be that the film has now become dated by today's standards.
We do live in interesting times...
If you ask me, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro are geniuses: There is that certain je ne sais quoi, a timeless eery quality, both strange and familiar, to their movies.
I would recommend The City of Lost Children to you, but chances are that if you didn't like Delicatessen, you won't care for the dark, dystopian alternate world of The City of Lost Children, either.

ReplyDeleteHis review is blasphemy!
I <3 Delicatessen.

And how many films do you know that feature a bullshit detector? How cool is that?!
ReplyDeleteWish I had one :-)
ReplyDeleteNot commercially viable, Jeremiah. And way too dangerous.
ReplyDeleteI understand that the bartender keeps some kind of an unpatented Bullshit Detector under the counter. But he mostly keeps it turned off. The device is no use; it would explode in no time, especially during an election year.
