    In defense of Al Franken, I must say that in this particular instance, the sabotage came from above. Obama has stacked the deck against his own party and any democrat who vote against the "deal" will now be branded as an obstructionist and "an enemy of the people" by the Obama-Republican coalition if the deal falls throw and people are left with no unemployment benefits over the holidays or taxes are "raised" on the middle class.

    Considering that all and any blame will now be put at the feet of the Democrats, the GOP has been handed a Royal Flush, courtesy of the president, and have no need to negotiate---much less "compromise" with the Democrats. Hence making Bill Clinton's comment ("I don't believe there is a better deal out there") a self-fulfilling prophecy.

    Mitch McConnell is threatening the House Democrats not to tamper with the bill as agreed upon by the Repubs and the president.

    McConnell is in the minority. The Republicans are in the minority. Yet McConnell calls the shots. Makes the threats. Controls the stage. Makes everyone tremble.

    And, weakling that he is, Obama attacks his own party rather than the true opposition, which (for a guy who makes claim to higher ethics) is truly reprehensible.
